WATERS

Water consumption is one of the characteristics of our society and its availability is an essential element for a pleasant holiday. When not adequately treated, waste water is the main source of pollution in all the coastal areas, especially in the south of Italy. La Francesca has faced both issues.

Water supply and saving

Tap water is of good quality and comes from the mountains of the Parco del Cilento. Among the things you do not see there also is the system to prevent water shortage, an ever serious problem for the south of Italy and whose solution has been searched for during the last few years only. We have worked things in such a way that water shortage is not a problem for our hosts. We have tanks and pumps that have been preventing any problem for the last 16 years. But water is valuable and must be used rationally. For this reason we ask for your collaboration, by limiting the consumption and noticing any leakage (for example a dripping tap). On our part, we contributed to water saving by fitting special shower roses that, exploiting the Venturi effect, mix air and water and supply a shower that gives a pleasant sensation (jets are softer) and allow 50% saving approx. As these roses are delicate, please communicate us any malfunction to allow our intervention. Try not to waste water and do not make it flow uselessly. In particular, hot water is supplied at 40°C for reasons that we will explain afterwards and its temperature does not increases if water flows for a longer time.

Dirty waters and clean sea

Water pollution may have many reasons, but in the coastal areas of the south of Italy mainly depends on the waste waters directly discharged in the sea by purifying systems which, when existing, do not operate correctly during summer. We consider our sea as our most precious wealth and we thought to protect it, at least as far as we can, by building a water purifying system just from the beginning.

Our choice: treatment and reuse

We do not trust the existing treatment systems. Therefore we built our own using a special technology allowing us to achieve an uncommon water quality. Our system is able to respond to summer operating peaks thanks to special measures studied for this purpose (double stage with double denitration). If you need more information, please ask us. This is a thing we are proud of. According to the surveys made by control bodies, the waters outlet by our system are not only within the limits set by the law but it is safe to bathe in them.

Technological solutions: not even a drop in the sea

But discharging water, even if clean, in a delicate and precious environment as the bay of La Francesca may however alter the ecosystem. Therefore we decided that not even a drop of waste waters must arrive to the sea. A big pump, (sometimes you may hear its noise near the showers) sends the cleaned water to a network of microslotted pipes buried in the wood far from the Village area. Water is distributed along approx. 1 km of network and directly wets the tree roots in summer, when they need it more. All this has required adopting advanced and complex technological solutions. You may not notice it, but brittle stars, pipe fishes and many other animals populating the bay thanks us by keeping on living happy and being admired by adults and children.
